Ravenswood House

The main driver behind this compact design was to create a generally low maintenance home and to maximise energy efficiency on a budget. The external walls offer 140mm thick framing (Standard in New Zealand is 90mm) which allowed more room for insulation, giving it an R4.0 rating (Standard in New Zealand is R2.6 for the South Island). 60% of the wall cladding is brick veneer, which will definitely stand the test of time. The other 40% of the wall cladding is Cedar Shiplap weatherboards which do require more maintenance, but as it is only single storey it is quite easy to achieve for this design feature. The roof cladding is a Colorsteel Dimondek 400 tray profile, which is a concealed clip tray system – meaning no visible roof fixings to need replacing and maintaining in the future.
